ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) Consultations

We understand that the decision to embark on this journey requires significant time, prioritisation and financial commitment. Please take the time to read the following paragraphs and discuss with our team if there is anything you would like to clarify.

Different journeys

Many of our patients begin their journey having observed symptoms from a young age such as; inattention, distractibility, impulsiveness, hyperactivity, restlessness, executive function difficulties, to name a few. For others, these deficits have been observed in more recent times by their family members, partners, colleagues, teachers, or professional contacts such as GPs and psychologists.

2

Holistic perspective

We provide a psychiatric assessment for every patient with the aim of understanding your difficulties through a holistic perspective using a biopsychosocial model. We attempt to describe your difficulties through a diagnostic framework, informed by Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, or DSM). We also endeavour to sketch a narrative of your presentation through a psychodynamically informed approach.

3

Accurate. Beneficial. Complex.

During your consultation, we may determine that it is accurate and beneficial to use the ADHD diagnosis to understand your difficulties. We often find that people are much more complex than a single diagnostic label can describe. This may lead to additional or alternative ways to understand your challenges.

4

Management Plan

These preliminary understandings inform your management plan, which, broadly speaking, include psychoeducation, psychological intervention and if indicated, medication.

5

Your Story

We pride our work in forming an understanding of your story which forms the backbone of your treatment plan.

6

More than just ticking boxes

Because of our holistic approach, you can expect our ADHD Consultations to encompass more than just a process of ticking boxes. We use questionnaires only as one of many tools to help you to reflect on potential challenges you may have experienced.

7

Careful consideration

Careful consideration is given towards the correct diagnosis and treatment. Consequently, while evidence informs us that the most effective treatment for the symptoms of ADHD is stimulant medication, it is not necessarily the appropriate recommendation for certain patients.

8

We initiate treatment

If pharmacotherapy is indicated, we will initiate treatment as well as advise a comprehensive treatment plan to your referring GP.

9

We arrange follow up

We may arrange a follow up consultation to ensure your treatment is on track before we hand over your management plan to your GP.
